Wiki 2 - Week 2 Wahanga 3 - Term 3.

Māori Language Week has come to a close for this year. All of us - Whaea Maria, Tuahine Hireke and Myself would like to commend our students for the wonderful job they did of teaching Te Reo Māori to other classes at St Albans this week. They really are a credit to the hard work that goes on in Te Tikanga Rua Reo.

Term 3 Weather.
Term 3 has started off with vim and vigour. The weather is still really cold and we have seen our tauira turn up to school in shorts and a t-shirt. We have had some bitter weather of late, so it would be a great idea to have the school jersey/polar fleece handy.
The whole school will be eating inside this term. This gives the teachers another chance to check on lunch eating and eating habits and patterns. Some of our tauira are eating all their lunch at morning tea time. Please have a chat to them about morning tea and lunch times.

Kapa Haka
Could we have a group of parents to spare a couple of hours to get the kapa haka uniforms out from the resource room, bagged and tagged so we can start fitting the tauira for the Christchurch Cultural Arts Festival. If you could spare a few minutes/hours/days, please contact me here at school.

Tipu is due to start Gymnastics next week. YAY!

Nga mihi
Tipu o Te Tikanga Rua Reo.

Wāhanga Tuatoru - Term 3

Kia ora tātou. Nau mai hoki mai ki te wāhanga tuatoru! Welcome back to Term 3 with all its wintry blasts still swirling around. Remember to send your tamariki with a jumper or a polar fleece to school. Winter has not yet finished with us.
We will be sitting inside this term to eat lunches.

We have an action packed 3rd term and here are some dates you will need to post onto the fridge or pop into your diaries.

Wednesday 6th August 5.30p.m. Whānau Hui. Nau mai haere mai, bring your kai along. We will eat and meet at the same time.
Week 7 -
Monday 1st August: Christchurch Arts Festival Performance at CBS Arena. Buy tickets from school office now.
Week 8 -
Thursday 11th September: Manu Kōrero for TTRR starting at 9a.m. - 12.30p.m. The topics are: He way, he oranga - Water is life or Titiro mai ki taku pai - Look at what I can do.

Our topic this term is: LOOK!
(Looking at the past, Looking to the future, look at what I can do)
Expect some questionnaires home regarding this topic. We will need photographs too. It should be interesting.

Here is one of the many shots taken from our trip to Rāpaki. One of the highlights was of course the waka ama and we are still amazed at how calm and sunny the harbour was for us that day.

Ngā mihi

He tio, he huka, he tōmairangi!
Meltdown!
Kia ora tātou
Yesterday, the children arrived at school to a winter wonderland. There were ice balls, cubes and even an ice hand all around the school. This prompted lots of kōrero about ice and the tamariki were eager to share their stories about what was happening and how the ice was formed and made. Here are some photos of what happened.
This is one of the meltdown sculptures which were dotted around the school.
Here are some questions to ask your tamariki:
1. He aha te kupu Māori for 'ice?'
2. E hanga ana te 'ice' i te aha?
3. He pēhea tōna pāmahana? He maeke? He mahana rānei?

Make some ice with your tamariki and time how long it takes for it to melt.

Ngā mihi

Wiki 5 - Week 5 Pīpiri - June

Tuesday 3rd June - Friday 6th June

Kia ora tātou.
He wai, he oranga!
We are well into the term now and the tamariki have been learning lots about water - He wai, he oranga! Ask them about what they know.
Haerenga ki Rāpaki
Te Tikanga Rua Reo has been organising their haerenga to Rāpaki. Please make sure your tamaiti/tamariki has returned their form to their kaiako. We will be sending more information home this week. It is important that it is read and returned to school. A big mihi to those matua who have indicated that they are available to transport tamariki to Rāpaki Marae and are also able to sleep over the night. Wananei koutou! We will be having a hui about parent responsibility very soon.
Christchurch Performing Arts Festival
Te Mahuri kapa haka group has undergone some changes this year, the first major change being the maximum number being 70. The second change is that we have only included Year 5 and 6 from the mainstream. At present their are 80 students in Te Mahuri and we are only able to cater for 70. Te Tikanga Rua Reo's place in Te Mahuri are safe.
He pīnono te mahi
Are any parents able to spare some time during the day to read with our students. This time would be from 11.15a.m. every day. We know that having someone to read to each day increases your tamariki's knowledge of reading.
Does anyone have any contacts for sheets of plexiglass? If you could come and talk to the kaiako in TTRR, we will let you know what it is going to be used for.

Keep well, warm and safe and see you all soon.
Hei kona mo tenei wa.

In this blog page you will find what the tauira have been doing, extra notice, and some examples of what the tauira in Tipu have been doing.

1. We have sadly farewelled Pa Tosh from St Albans School and Te Tikanga Rua Reo. He is having a well deserved rest, but he plans to come back to visit us.

2. We have had two new tauira join us in Tipu and Te Tikanga Rua Reo. Welcome to Wairākau Draper and Tiana Taogaga. We know you will enjoy being part of our whānau.

3. Most of T.T.R.R were able to participate in and travel around most of the stations in our school wide Water Ignition which was called DRIP, DRIP, DRIP! You may have noticed that some of the tamariki came home a little damp!

NOTICES/UPCOMING EVENTS:

1. We have a whānau hui here in T.T.R.R on Wednesday 14th May at 5.30p.m. Bring your kai and kids with you and we will meet while we eat. Mrs. Warren will be presenting that night.

2. School-wide cross country. Please keep a close eye out on the notices for the school wide Cross Country which is going to be held next week at English Park. Year groups have different starting times and routes to run. See if your tamariki can do some practice at home!
